Pre Academic
Programme

What is it?

The transition from high school to university is always challenging for first-year students, especially for those without academic role models. That is why in 2013, the EUR launched a personal leadership program aimed to prepare students for what is to come. This program takes place before the start of the academic year and is unique to the EUR.

2020: A year with new challenges

Such as all things in 2020, the Pre Academic Programme (PAP) was also affected. Preparations for PAP 2020 were already well underway, but the PAP-team was suddenly forced to completely re-design the program just two months before the start of PAP 2020.

Hello ErasmusX, are you in for a challenge?

Due to this new pressure and the high quality that the PAP-team requires from itself, the PAP-team and ErasmusX joined forces. Immediately after, we drafted a plan to organize the entire program online. Three conditions had to be met for the PAP 2020 Digital Edition:

  • The program had to be designed to accommodate an even larger group of students than in previous years.
  • Besides the knowledge transfer, the program also needed to facilitate interaction between students.
  • The team wanted to stimulate bonding between students and offer an activity in which they could share personal interest.

How we solved it

The program was split up into 5 themes, so every week would cover one of the themes. The program therefore needed to be fully redesigned and transformed from a one-week on-campus experience to a five-week online program.

Every week contained an asynchronous knowledge transfer track and a synchronous group activity. The asynchronous track was created so that students could independently work on assignments, read literature, watch small knowledge clips etc. The synchronous group activities on the other hand, asked students to reflect on their learnings, share their insights and to engage in group assignments. ErasmusX also created a game centre so that interaction was stimulated.
